The villa is located Violi Xaraki, just a short drive from Rethymno town with its beautiful Turkish and Venetian architecture, as well as its long sandy beach. With a plethora of tavernas and fine dining restaurants, boutiques, cafes, fortress, museums and art culture, Rethymno is not to be missed. As the sun sets over Rethymno town and the Fortezza fortress, the atmosphere changes under the twinkling night sky.
As you are just a short drive from the highway, you are in a prime position to explore the multiple picturesque villages and stunning nearby beaches but also within an hour’s drive from both Chania and Heraklion cities. If you don’t want to travel far there is plenty to explore on your doorstep. Lake Kournas, known as the “Emerald’ lake, is half an hour’s drive away. Hire a pedalo or paddle boat and turtle spot, swim in the lake or simply enjoy the glorious scenery and environment in one of the lakeside tavernas. Argiropouli is famous for its lush green vegetation and water springs. Many of the tavernas have water wheels and are famous for fresh trout and ‘antikristo’ lamb cooked slowly over an open fire.
Head south and visit the tombs of Armeni, an unusual discovery and continue on to the village of Spili with its lions’ head fountains and craft shops. Explore the famous Amari valley and the plateaus of Psiloritis or enjoy a drive through the intimidating Kourtaliotiko canyon as you head down to the crystalline waters of south Crete.
Imbros Gorge is the little sister of Samaria and can be reached by car. 8kms of stunning, changing scenery beckons you. It’s well worth the effort.
